Filmtaget, a new and unconventional cultural venue in the heart of Copenhagen, spans 1700 m². Here, visitors can watch films, explore the treasures of Danish cinema, enjoy the city from new perspectives, and savor a light meal at Meyers Spiseri & Bar. Filmtaget is open to visitors from 10 AM to 11 PM year-round, and entry is free.
Experiences for Everyone
At Filmtaget, both children and adults can delve into Danish film. Several interactive exhibition pavilions showcase highlights from the birth of cinema to the present day. Visitors can view iconic clips from popular comedies, experiment with Dogme rules, learn about prominent filmmakers, and read fan letters to silent film stars. For the youngest visitors, there are two children's areas featuring film quizzes and children's films. The exhibition centres on Danish cinema.
In the open-air cinema, Himmelbio, daytime visitors can enjoy walk-in screenings of short and documentary films. In the evenings and on weekends, there will be ticketed screenings aimed at both adults and children.
Filmtaget’s dining and bar area, operated by Meyers, also manages the restaurant and café in the ground floor of Cinemateket.
The Treasure of Danish Cinema
Filmtaget is linked to the Danish Film Institute's existing film outreach but offers the public new ways to engage with and learn about Danish films.
We aim to make Filmtaget a new gathering place filled with vibrant film experiences. As a cultural institution, we must constantly evolve our outreach and rethink our engagement with the public. With Filmtaget, we invite new groups to visit us and experience the many facets of Danish cinema.
