Rúnarsson's film about the stubborn and proud Hannes who has worked all his life as a janitor and now, upon retirement, is faced with unexpected choices is selected for the Toronto International Film Festival. "Volcano" will be part of the Discovery programme highlighting up-and-coming directors from around the world.
Since its world release at Cannes, "Volcano" has travelled to festivals in Transylvania, Munich, Karlovy Vary, Warsaw and Haugesund and has also been picked for the Chicago Film Festival in October – to name but a handful of the international film events that have been lining up for Rúnarsson's debut feature.
Icelandic Rúnar Rúnarsson who has trained at the National Film School in Denmark and whose short film "The Last Farm" was nominated for an Oscar, wrote the script, and producers are Thor Sigurjonsson, Skuli Malmquist, Thomas Gammeltoft and Egil Dennerline for Fine & Mellow and Iclandic Zik Zak Filmworks. International sales are handled by TrustNordisk.
"Volcano" has received production support from the Danish talent scheme New Danish Screen.
