Kompagnonerne Storch og Søndergaard går ganske uvidende en forvirrende dag i møde. Fødselsdagsbarnet Storch minder Søndergaard om, at han har bryllupsdag, hvilket får Søndergaard til straks at sende en buket blomster hjem til sin kone. Som svar skriver Fru Søndergaard en frokostinvitation til sin mand og – i samme ombæring – et fødselsdagskort til Storch. Ved en fejltagelse bliver kortene forbyttet, hvilket får store konsekvenser for begge par.
