En asteroide på størrelse med Texas er på vej med fuld fart mod Jorden, og rammer den, vil det betyde enden på menneskets eksistens. Med kun 18 dage at løbe på, vælger NASA at sende en gruppe mennesker ud i rummet for at tilintetgøre asteroiden.
