Planeten Spaceball regeres af den skurkagtige præsident Skroob. Beboerne på planeten har sløset al deres luft op og for at overleve beslutter de at stjæle luften fra deres fredelige naboplanet Druidia. Den skumle plan sættes i værk samme dag som Druidias prinsesse Vespa skal giftes med prins Valium.
