Alvin, Simon og Theodore ender i denne efterfølger med at bo hos Dave Sevilles unge nevø Toby. Drengene må lægge deres stjernestatus på hylden og tage tilbage på skolebænken. For at kunne bevare skolens musikundervisning, må de små jordegern vinde den store præmie i en kæmpe musikkonkurrence. Men konkurrencen bliver hård, da de tre jordegern uventet møder deres musikalske modstykke.
