Jesse og Celine har fundet sammen, men står nu ved en korsvej i deres tilværelse. Filmen begynder i en lufthavn i Grækenland, hvor Jesse er ved at sætte sin teenagesøn, Hank, på flyet hjem til USA. Hank bor sammen med Jesses ekskone i Chicago. Udenfor venter Celine på Jesse i bilen sammen med deres døtre. Sammen har de holdt en lang sommerferie og her den sidste dag og aften er det tid til refleksion over deres tilværelse; over hvad der er sket i de 18 år, siden de mødtes første gang - og over hvad fremtiden skal bringe.
