I et træ bor en lille fugl. Den opdager en larve, som æder bladene. Da fuglen hiver larven væk, falder de begge ned. En ræv dukker op, og fuglen og larven flygter sammen. Larven redder flere gange den lille fugl fra ræven. Undervejs forpupper larven sig og bliver til en sommerfugl.
