The Cinematheque features two facilities: Studios 1-4 for large groups (11-28 participants) and Studios 5-7 for small groups (2-10 participants).
Studio 1-4
Each studio is a live action studio with room for a film crew of 4-7 participants, who have assigned the positions of director, cinematographer, editor and actors among themselves. Moreover, the crews have access to a Foley studio and a studio for shooting close-ups.
Studio 5-8
Studios 5-8 consist of two live action studios and two smaller studios, where participants can add dialogue to silent movies or experiment with trick film. Located in a public area, these studios are aimed at general audiences as well as small user groups.
Background films
Studios 1-5 all feature a combination of physical and virtual scenography, the so-called background films. In Studios 1 and 2, green screens combined with background films enable maximum use of film magic. In Studios 3-5, the background film serves as a rear projection, suitable for dialogue-based narratives and character dramas.
Background films allow participant to produce their films in a wide variety of settings representing different genres and eras.
Editing is done on a computer with standard editing software (iMovie), located inside each studio. Participants can access a library of additional film clips, music and sound effects.
Crews edit their films together and present their final works to each other in a small cinema. Afterwards they can share their films online with their classmates, friends and relatives – if all crew members agree.
