Denmark has a large and varied film-culture and film-education environment with many different actors. At the Danish Film Institute, it is a key task to promote and coordinate activities and cooperation in this environment. We support film clubs and film festivals for children and teens. And we have established a number of initiatives and schemes to support film-culture and film-education activities across the country.

Film clubs

DaBUF, the association of Danish film clubs for children and teens, was founded in 1952 from a desire to secure and promote children’s access to quality films. Today, there are more than 70 film clubs for children and teens across Denmark. Every year, the clubs present a varied, curated film programme outside of school for more than 50,000 club members, under the slogan “Films should be seen together with others".

Festivals

A number of film festivals in Denmark have screenings for children and teens. Alongside screenings on weekends and outside of school, many of the festivals feature programmes aimed directly at schoolchildren with screenings during school hours.

Festivals supported by the Danish Film Institute that specialise in films for youthful audiences are, for instance, BUSTER, Salaam Film & Dialogue and the Odense International Film Festival.

See more about the festivals on this page listing all major Danish festivals
