Sørensen has a BA in Japan Studies from Aarhus University, an MA and a Ph.D. in Film- & Media Studies from Copenhagen University. His dissertation, Censorship of Japanese Films during the U.S. Occupation of Japan 1945-52, was published by Edwin Mellen Press, N.Y. in 2009.
The last three years Sørensen has turned to researching Danish film during the German occupation of Denmark, and published Dansk film under nazismen (‘Danish Film during Nazism’) in spring 2014. Film history, film and nation, and film and power relations are at the core of Sørensen’s research interests.
