Søren Kragh-Jacobsen returns with his first Danish feature in several years after working as episode director on the TV series 'Follow the Money'.
His upcoming dramedy, 'Oh, To Be a Butterfly', is centered on the stubborn pig farmer Ernst and his wife Louise who are celebrating their 50th anniversary with a traditional Danish party for friends and family. However, the family carries several secrets and Ernest holds on to the biggest one of them all. Through one long joyous, intoxicating, surprising, gripping and melancholic night, the truths creep out and the family is put to the ultimate test.
Playing the role of Ernst is Jesper Christensen who also appeared in Kragh-Jacobsen's debut feature 'Wanna See My Beautiful Navel?' from 1978. Since then, Christensen has become one of the most important Danish actors of his generation.
More recently, he has featured in international films such as the Bond movies 'Casino Royale', 'Quantum of Solace' and 'Spectre' as well as Lars von Trier's films 'Melancholia' and 'Nymphomaniac'. Last year he received the best actor prize at both the Tokyo and Chicago film festivals for his leading role in Michael Noer's 'Before the Frost'.
Starring opposite Christensen in the role of Louise is veteran actor Karen-Lise Mynster known from films such as Lone Scherfig's Silver Bear-winner 'Italian for Beginners', Annette K. Olesen's 'Minor Hishaps', which also starred Jesper Christensen, and most recently 'That Time of Year', which was selected for Toronto Film Festival and earned Mynster nominations for both a Bodil and Robert award.
Since his debut, Kragh-Jacobsen has been a prominent figure in Danish film. He was one of the founding members of Dogme95, alongside Lars von Trier, Thomas Vinterberg and Kristian Levring. Kragh-Jacobsen's Dogme film 'Mifune' was one of the best-selling Danish movies of the year and won the Jury Grand Prix at the Berlinale.
Kragh-Jacobsen is also behind youth films such as the Danish classics 'The Boys From St. Petri' (1991) and 'Rubber Tarzan' (1981). Recently he has directed for TV in-between features, including as concept director on the political drama 'Borgen', which won the BAFTA for best international series in 2012 and 2014.
'Oh, To Be a Butterfly' is written and directed by Søren Kragh-Jacobsen. Eva Jakobsen, Mikkel Jersin and Katrin Pors are producing for Snowglobe, in co-production with Icelandic Pegasus Pictures, and with support from the Danish Film Institute, FilmFyn and Nordisk Film & TV Fond.
