Jonas Poher Rasmussen's animated documentary 'Flee' was presented with two nominations, as the European Film Academy on Tuesday unveiled the candidates for this year's awards ceremony. In total, the film is now nominated in three categories:
European Documentary, European Animated Feature Film – adding to the nomination for the European University Film Award announced in September.
The European Film Awards takes place on 11 December, where all the winners will be celebrated at the prize ceremony in Berlin.
Jonas Poher Rasmussen's film about his friend Amin, who for the first time reveals the story of his escape from Afghanistan to Denmark 25 years ago, recently won the Nordic Council Film Prize and was picked in October as Denmark's Oscar entry.
'Flee' was selected for the Cannes Festival's special digital edition in 2020 and won awards at the major festivals in Sundance, Göteborg and Annecy, and also screened at Toronto, Telluride and London Film Festivals. The film was recently nominated for the Gotham Awards and the Critics Choice Documentary Awards, two prestigious US prize events.
Among the nominees from Tuesday's European Film Awards announcement were also two international co-productions with Danish participation: the Swedish animated film 'The Ape Star' by Linda Hambäck with Danish co-producers Nørlum, and 'The Worst Person in the World' by Joachim Trier, with Danish co-production by Snowglobe.
