A remote fishing village in Iceland. Teenage boys Thor and Kristján experience a turbulent summer as one tries to win the heart of a girl while the other discovers new feelings toward his best friend. When summer ends and the harsh nature of Iceland takes back its rights, it's time to leave the playground and face adulthood.

| Comment | Heartstone is Guðmundsson’s feature debut, developed at the Cannes Cinéfondation Residency in Paris. The film screened in Venice Days, winning the Queer Lion, as well as both Toronto and Chicago Film Festival and Göteborg, winning a string of awards around the world. The director received a Special Mention at Cannes in 2013 for his short film Whale Valley, also recipient of a European Film Award. He also took home prizes for his short film Ártún. |
