Director. Born 26/9 1973. Graduated as documentary director from the National Film School of Denmark in 1997.
Grønkjær had her breakthrough with 'The Monastery' (2006), her first long documentary. The film, wich took eight years to make, won the Joris Ivens top award at the IDFA Film Festival plus additional awards at festivals such as Cinema Eye Honors, Full Frame, Chicago Film Festival and Moscow Film Festival.
Since then she has directed documentaries such as 'Love Addict – Stories of Dreams, Obsession and Longing' (2011), 'Genetic Me' (2014), which was selected for CPH:DOX, 'The Other Side' (2017) about Danish comedian Anders Matthesen and 'Hunting for Hedonia' (2019), which premiered at CPH:DOX.
In 2007 Grønkjær co-founded the Danish production company Danish Documentaries with fellow filmmakers Eva Mulvad and Phie Ambo. Shortly after director Mikala Krogh and producer Sigrid Dyekjær came on board as co-owners.
